Good times at weekend swim meets, county meet tomorrowTue, 01/24/2006 - 4:58pm

The McIntosh High School men finished third and the women finished ninth among 19 schools at the Panther Wolfpack Invitational Swimming and Diving Meet last Saturday. Senior Thomas Lucak broke his own McIntosh school record for the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.82, which earned a first in that event. He also finished second in the 100 backstroke. Senior Bryan Mitchell added two second place finishes in the 200 individual medley and the 100 breastroke. The men also captured second in the 200 medley relay with Lucak, Mitchell, freshman Josh Day and freshman Alex Harmon. The Chiefs finished fourth in the 400 freestyle relay with Mitchell, Harmon, senior Scott Druskatt and sophomore Kevin Dietze. Best individual results for the McIntosh women were posted by sophomore Keaton Hannon, who took fourth in the 200 individual medley and fifth in the 100 butterfly. The women were competing without some of their strongest swimmers. McIntosh also has no dive team and earns no points in men’s and women’s diving events. Fayette County High also attended the Panther Wolfpack meet this past weekend. The boy's medley relay team consisting of sophomore John Daley, freshman David Gridley, sophomore Sean Phillips and junior Mark Torre placed 11th out of 25 teams. Daley, Gridley, Phillips and Torre placed eighth in the 200 free relay. Daley and Phillips placed seventh and eighth respectively in the 200 individual medley. Senior Bryce Samples dropped two seconds in the 50 free Phillips placed seventh in the 100 fly for a season best finish of 1:05.06. Daley placed eighth in the 100 back with a season best finish. Sharon Hayes dropped five seconds in the 50 free, while senior Katelyn Davis placed third in the 100 fly and second in the 100 breast, faster than her previous State qualifying times. Sandy Creek finished first as a team against Jonesboro, Creekside, and Our Lady of Mercy. We also came in fifth out of nine teams at the Evans Invitational. The boys 200 free relay team has qualified for state with a time of 1:41.48. Zach Payne has also qualified for state in the: 100 butterfly with a time of 52.19, the 100 back with a time of 59.31 and the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:08.16. These teams, as well as Whitewater and Starr’s Mill, will compete next at the Fayette County meet tomorrow and the Metro Atlanta meet Saturday, Jan. 28. login to post comments |
