We should encourage modified carts contests

10,000 golf carts that all look alike, how boring. I’ve always been surprised I haven’t seen more modified golf carts around town. I’ve lived in PTC for 16 years, and I’ve always wanted to see a golf cart modification competition, possibly with sponsored teams.

Imagine if we could get one or more teams from the local high schools sponsored by local business. Do they still teach vocational skills in high school such as welding, metal working, auto shop, fiberglass fabricating and electrical/electronics?

My high school projects were the core for my career. But that’s not to limit family or corporate teams either.

The popularity of shows like “Monster Garage,” “American Chopper,” “American Hot Rod,” “Overhaulin’,” etc., should indicate a general interest in building cool stuff.

The finished carts could ride in the July 4th parade and be sold for charity.

If modified carts invite reckless driving, we might as well remove all the choppers and custom and antique cars from the roads.

This seems like a great promotion for the progressive city PTC strives to be. Meanwhile I’m back to the drawing board for my amphibious golf cart.
