Boy Scout designs, constructs Eagle project

Cory Bowles, a member of Boy Scout Troop 73, recently completed his Eagle Scout project.

Bowles designed and constructed recycling bins for Sara Harp Minter Elementary School, who will begin a water bottle recycling program for the 2008-2009 school year. He constructed three bins each holding three large containers to collect the water bottles. Working with Bowles from Sara Harp Minter Elementary were principal Mike Smith and science teacher Debbie Wise.

Bowles is a graduate of Sara Harp Minter Elementary and is a sophomore at Whitewater High School. Scouts from Troop 73, which meets at Inman United Methodist Church, assisted Bowles in the construction and painting of the collection bins.

Bowles state, “Minter is a great school. Mr. Smith made time to help me. I want to give back and help the students take responsibility for their future.”

Bowles acquired donations for the project from local businesses, family and friends. Contributions were obtained from Dianne Wood, Greg and Brenda Moody, owners of B & G Floorcovering, Tammy and Karl Thomason – owners of Prime Financial, Stacey Ferguson and Grey and Jeanette Moody.
