On Wednesday, June 25, the Piedmont Fayette Hospital Auxiliary collected and donated more than 130 skeins of yarn for baby caps. Local knitters and crocheters volunteer their skill and time to make the caps, which are given to newborns at the hospital.

Many also supply their own yarn, but according to baby cap project co-organizer Julie Jasnic, that’s a challenge for some. “Several of the ladies who make these precious caps are homebound and some are on limited incomes,” she said. “This yarn helps them to contribute. The caps they knit do more than help keep the babies warm; they welcome them into the world.”

Kathy Vogeltanz, another co-organizer of the project, was on hand to accept the mounds of yarn, in an array of colors including pastel blues and pinks. “We’re honored by the gift that the Auxiliary has given to our knitters. It’s something that will touch many lives and bring a lot of joy.”
