Bargain shopping makes a difference With the kids back in school and summer winding to a close, it’s a great time to celebrate. The Real Life Store in Tyrone will host a Customer Appreciation Day on Saturday, August 23 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Customer Appreciation Day will feature food, door prizes and fun, and area residents are encouraged to stop by to visit and shop. Purchases at the Real Life Store serve a dual purpose: saving the customer money while providing funding for programs provided by the Real Life Center. The thrift store is the result of more than 1,000 community volunteer hours. Proceeds from the store provide funding for the Real Life Center, which exists to serve families in Fayette County. “The Real Life Center helps families from throughout Fayette County going through a difficult time; helping to provide necessities for living and equipping for life,” says executive director Cathy Berggren. This summer the Real Life Center has seen an increase in the number of people who need assistance. The center is a non-profit organization that helps families and individuals who are going through an unexpected difficult circumstance by giving them a means to cope with the financial, emotional, and spiritual hardships of life. What sets the center apart from other organizations that provide clothing, food and assistance to those in need, is that RLC commits to walk alongside its clients and help them through the trials of life with a custom-designed plan which specifically addresses the challenges of their situation. The center provides a safe environment where each person can build relationships, receive encouragement, access needed assistance and obtain referrals to additional community resources. This collaboration of resources helps equip individuals and families to navigate through their harships. Services offered through the Real Life Center include a food pantry, clothes closet, career help, financial counseling and budgeting, support groups, mentoring and limited financial assistance. The center distributed 5,300 lbs. of food in July and has an active caseload of more than 400 families. The store, located at 992 Senoia Road in Tyrone, has been open for almost two years. The store features a large selection of clothing, households goods, furniture and children’s items. For more information regarding the Real Life Center please call 770-631-9334.
