Kiwanis convention is this weekend

The 89th Annual Georgia District Kiwanis Convention is in Peachtree City from August 15 – 17.   All activities will be in the Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center at 2443 Highway 54 West, adjacent to Lake Peachtree. 

There are approximately 8,000 Kiwanis members in Georgia in 171 separate clubs.  Registration begins at noon on Friday, August 15 with a reception and dinner following on Friday evening.  Over 600 participants are expected. 

The general session, plus training sessions and other business meetings, are scheduled for August 16.  The guest speaker for the Governor’s Banquet Saturday evening is Helen Denton, secretary for General Dwight Eisenhower, who typed the orders for the D-Day invasion of Europe.  Sunday morning a memorial service for deceased Kiwanians is scheduled.  New officers for the upcoming year will also be installed.  All Kiwanians are encouraged to attend.  Additional information can be found at  www.knowledgeconnex.com.

 The current Georgia Kiwanis Governor is Mick Maguire, a member of the Kiwanis Club of Peachtree City and resident of Sharpsburg.  Carlton Norris of Washington, Georgia will be installed as the governor for the 2008 – 09 Kiwanis year.
