Thanks to grants awarded from The United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta and the United States Department of Transportation, Federal Transit Administration, Fayette Senior Services, Inc., a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, is able to continue its popular Voucher Transportation Program. The program is designed to benefit Fayette County residents age 60 and better as well as disabled adults age 18 to 59 who cannot drive through no fault of their own.

Fayette Senior Services has been the leading provider of voucher transportation services in Fayette County for more than three years. Although the service has limited availability due to funding, last year nearly 1,200 vouchers were used by Fayette County seniors and more than 880 were used by disabled adults.

Without public transportation available in Fayette County, the independence of individuals who cannot drive through no fault of their own is severely limited.

Fayette Senior Services’ Transportation Voucher Program offers a low-cost, flexible solution to transportation challenges. Eligible participants can purchase vouchers for a nominal fee, arrange their own transportation and negotiate the payment for service with one of the program’s many registered drivers.

Transportation vouchers may be used for travel outside of Fayette County, which gives participants more flexibility to meet their needs; which is especially important when it comes to non-emergency medical appointments.

Individuals interested in participating in the program as passengers or as drivers should contact Ginnie Plunkett, voucher coordinator, at 770-461-0813 ext. 127 for details.

Fayette Senior Services is a non-profit organization that provides a wide variety of life-enhancing social, leisure and educational opportunities for older adults age 50 and better.
