Heritage Christian Church in south Fayette County will host the Uganda Children’s Choir, 28 children from 9-14 years of age from Kampala, Uganda, in a concert this Saturday, Aug. 16 at 4 p.m.

The concert is a part of the choir’s Suubi Tour 2008, a tour of Georgia and the Southeast from June through August.

The purpose of the concerts is to raise money to continue building their new school and orphanage. Currently more than 400 students attend the Royal School and Orphanage which rests on 1⁄4 acre of land. Many of the students live at the orphanage and sleep in cramped quarters with bunk beds pushed together, stacked three to four beds high, with two to three children sleeping in a single bed.

Last year the Ugandan Children’s Choir sang in more than 60 appearances and concerts and, as a result, construction is underway on the new campus located on 30 acres outside the city of Kampala. However funds are still needed to finish and furnish the new orphanage.

In conjunction with Heritage’s mission outreach to Africa, the church also will host the World Vision Experience: AIDS – A Step Into Africa, a free exhibit planned for Aug. 15 - 24.
