The Peachtree City Police Department is encouraging residents to become better prepared for potential emergencies.

The department is publicizing a state program that includes a web site with emergency preparedness tips, www.ready.ga.gov. The department will distribute information at city facilities and in public schools in addition to having informationl booths at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater.

The department is also continuing to host a specialized training course that teaches people lifesaving skills that can be applied in many different emergencies. The goal of the Community Emergency Response Team course is to prepare participants to help themselves, their family, their neighborhood and others when emergencies occur.

The next CERT class begins Sept. 11 and applications are due by Sept. 5; they are available online at www.ptcpolice.org.

“Preparedness is an important issue for every resident of Peachtree City,” said Police Chief H.C. “Skip” Clark II. “The Police Department and our Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) call on residents of all ages to take responsibility for their own readiness and preparedness. Our organization will be here to provide information on a local level to achieve the state’s goal of having every citizen ready to maintain self-sufficiency for the critical 72 hours following a disaster.”
