Wojcik wins silver at Junior OlympicsFri, 08/08/2008 - 7:52am

Derek Wojcik, 16, completed one of the best summers any competitor could ask for. Wojcik, first won the 2008 National Kyu tournament held in San Francisco, Calif. going 5-0 all by Ippon (instant win) in the sport of Judo. Next, Wojcik took silver at the U.S open in which over 30 countries represented the world in the sport of Judo. Over the weekend of July 25-26, Wojcik took his assault to Orlando, Fla. to compete at the Junior Olympics. He fell just short of his goal of gold as he reeled off four wins but lost in the finals. Wojcik accomplished what few dream of according to coach and dad Sensei Dave Wojcik. “Derek reeled off over 45 wins, won most outstanding competitor for the State of Georgia for the fourth time in five years and placed at all the national tournaments in which he competed in. He will end the year as the number 2 ranked 15-16 yr old Judo player in the United States.” Wojcik will be entering his junior year at Sandy Creek high school in Tyrone, Ga. where he is also an accomplished wrestler placing in all 13 high school tournaments in which he has participated as well as being a two year state placer.
