The horrors of $4-a-gallon gasoline are bringing metro Atlanta employers to The Clean Air Campaign and its innovative commute option programs in record numbers.  Four Coweta County companies are among The Clean Air Campaign’s 79 new Partners.

The new Coweta Partners are Yamaha Motor Manufacturing Corp. of America; Ball Corp.; Crossroads Chiropractic and Maxxis Corp.

In the first half of 2008, 79 new employers established new partnerships with The Clean Air Campaign. That six-month total set a record, nearly doubling the tally from the last half of 2007.  May was a record month with 21 new Partners, but June shattered that mark as 31 employers joined.  The 79 new Partners join more than 500 others that already work with The Clean Air Campaign in providing commuters with alternatives to a solo commute.

“Interest in our programs and services has grown at a phenomenal rate this year, as employers are calling us, anxious to join,” said Kevin Green, executive director of The Clean Air Campaign.  “The prime motivation is relief from high gas prices, but our Partners also are concerned about reducing traffic congestion and improving air quality.  The Clean Air Campaign’s programs positively impact all three areas – they allow commuters to save money and gasoline, they improve air quality and they reduce congestion.”

Each employer earns a Partnership level based on the elements of the commute option program it implements. The levels range from Community, Bronze, Silver and Gold to Platinum.

The Clean Air Campaign’s employer service program is part of a multi-tiered effort to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality throughout the region.  The suite of programs includes commuter incentives, school-based programs and public education.  The Clean Air Campaign is one of 10 metro Atlanta organizations that work in concert to provide employer-based programs to improve mobility and air quality.

The Clean Air Campaign’s employer services team provides on-site program development, program support through no-cost transportation fairs, marketing tools, training seminars and networking programs.  Partners can also earn recognition at the annual PACE Awards, recognizing Atlanta’s best workplaces for commuters, scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 16 at the Georgia Aquarium.

The Clean Air Campaign is a not-for-profit organization that works with Georgia’s employers, commuters and schools to encourage actions that result in less traffic congestion and better air quality. To accomplish this goal, The Clean Air Campaign, along with its associate organizations, partners with more than 1,100 employers to create custom commute options programs; and annually helps thousands of commuters find commute alternatives that work for them, providing financial incentives to get them started. The Clean Air Campaign also protects public health by issuing Smog Alerts and empowers students, parents and teachers to play a positive role in reducing traffic and cleaning the air through a multi-faceted education program reaching elementary, middle and high schools.

Each day, these programs reduce 1.2 million miles of vehicle travel and keep 600 tons of pollution out of the air we breathe. For more information, call 1-877-CLEANAIR (1-877-253-2624) or visit CleanAirCampaign.com.
