It is going to be a different kind of 5K race, Halloween costumes and all. The Coweta County Commission Aug. 5 approved the Oct. 25 Halloween Classic 5K fundraiser to benefit CORRAL (Coweta Organization for Riding, Rehabilitation and Learning) in Roscoe and to help start up the Newnan Running Club. The event is a follow-up to last year’s Goblin Run.

“We will again have activities for children before, during and after the run. It will be a fun time for all that attend and we would like to have this in the county this year to avoid downtown traffic. I also feel that many races are done downtown and it would be a welcome change for runners to experience running more out in the county,” said Newnan Running Club spokesperson Wendee Miller explained as the rational for the request.

The race will begin at 3 p.m. at Brown Reservoir on Lamar Smith Road and continue on to Happy Valley Circle then back on Lamar Smith and end at the reservoir.

The Commissioners’ approval of the request was unanimous.

The event last year was named the Goblin Run and included 200 participants running in Halloween costumes. The event raised money for CORRAL and Historical Society of Newnan.

CORRAL is located at 52 Oliver Potts Road. The therapeutic horseback riding opened in 1987. It currently serves approximately 220 children each year at the barn and corral located off GA. Highway 70 just north of Newnan. Children with special needs come from all around and the Coweta and Carroll county school systems keep CORRAL workers busy teaching six week classes to students with mild, moderate, and severe intellectual disabilities.
