Isn’t it great when lawns and outside plants can be watered from above ground rather than below? Drought or not, that is what happened this week in Fayette, as welcome storm clouds brought more than two inches of rain to much of Fayette County.

National Weather Service reported that Peachtree City received .83 inches of rain in the past 24 hours while the area around Tyrone received just over an inch.

NWS also reported that during the period from 8 a.m. Tuesday through 8 a.m. Friday rainfall totals ranged from 2-3 inches through much of north and central Fayette, including most of Peachtree City. Rainfall amounts for Tyrone and east central Fayette ranged from 1.5-2.0 inches. The Extreme southern portions of the county received the least rain, with totals for the three days ranging from .75-1.0 inches.

They say all good things come to an end. And that may be true, at least temporarily. The extended forecast calls for clear skies with the temperature in the low to mid-90s and no rain until Aug. 7, when west Fayette will have a 30 percent chance of having lawns watered for free.

Fayette County Water Sysem Director Tony Parrott said conditions at the county’s reservoirs have improved in the past year. He said that, as of July 23, the water level at Lake Kedron was down two feet compared to being down six feet at the same time last year. Similarly at Lake Horton, current levels are down 1.5 feet compared to being down five feet last year.
