The Fayetteville police and fire departments will join the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office in hosting a “National Night Out” back to school event at the Target store in the Fayette Pavilion from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday night.

Police, deputies and firefighters will be on hand to speak with citizens about safety issues and provide fingerprinting and ID kits for children. Police cars including special models and fire trucks will also be on display.

Crime prevention information will be handed out and there will also be giveaways and door prizes. The event will be staffed by volunteers from Target, T.J. Maxx, Chick-fil-A, American Income Life and the Fayetteville Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy.

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are aware.
