The 2005-2006 basketball season is winding down and teams are facing their region foes for the second time this season, jockeying for seedings in the region tournament. What the coaches are looking for from their players in this final stretch, most of all, is consistency.

On the boys side, Sandy Creek is 3-2 in region 4-AAAA and is riding a two game losing streak. Three of their last four losses though were by under four points, which means that the Patriots are playing teams close and could be dangerous in the region tournament. Creekside is 5-0 in the region and they have gone 5-1 in their last six games with the only loss coming against the number one ranked Chapel Hill team. The Seminoles are getting big games from Montagious Brown, their leading scorer, and would love a rematch with the Panthers in the region tournament. Landmark Christian has produced two region wins this year and the War Eagles are playing good defense in bursts. If they put it all together for four quarters, they will be a dangerous foe in the 5-A region tournament.
On the girls side, the Sandy Creek Lady Patriots are 6-0 and riding a four game win streak. Morganne Campbell is leading the team in scoring but the entire team is playing well. They have had two double overtime games against county rivals and region 4-AAAAA foes and have gone 1-1 in those games. The Lady Patriots are tough and should be considered a favorite for another region crown. Creekside’s girls have lost two games in a row after a three game winning streak. They are 2-3 in the region but two of those losses were by two points or less. They are getting good leadership from their upperclassmen and should be tough in the tournament. In 5-A, the Landmark Christian Lady War Eagles are 6-1 and they are 10-2 in their last 12 games. Only two of their 10 wins were by single digit margins and sisters Christian and Diamond Hunnicutt are leading the team with outstanding play. They had an opportunity last night after the paper went to press to avenge their only region loss.
