Wieland’s multifamily housing: Look to Lexington for why not

Developer John Wieland Homes will be allowed to bring forward a proposal for multi-family homes as part of a residential development on an 89-acre site in Peachtree City currently zoned for industrial use.

This proposal is without merit because we need more industry for tax purposes, and multi-family housing in our city is disingenuous at best.

The exact type of multi-family housing located in Lexington Circle [on the city’s east side] has been a disaster from its very inception, and it is now under foreclosure proceedings.

Almost half of the structures have not been finished. Those that have not been finished will rapidly deteriorate due to lack of garage doors and doors and windows that are left open to the elements. In addition only 50 percent of the finished units have been sold. Obviously multi-family units are not marketable.

It stands to reason that more multi-family housing units are the last thing this city needs, especially considering the current housing crisis.
