Police: no foul play suspected

A woman who fell down stairs after a domestic dispute with her son Saturday afternoon has died from her injuries, Peachtree City police said.

Sharmane Phillips, 47, was knocked unconscious by the fall and was taken by medical helicopter to Atlanta Medical Center, police said. She was initially listed in critical condition but Sunday she succumbed to her injuries and was taken off life support, police said.

Police said they are now waiting for the final medical examiner’s report from the autopsy, which could take several weeks. But for now, police say, it doesn’t appear that foul play was involved.

Witnesses told police that Phillips fell down the stairs to her basement following a domestic dispute at 504 Willow Road, less than two blocks from City Hall.

The autopsy was ordered by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office and was performed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
