Fayette County Public Library invites everyone in the community to gather at the library on Saturday, July 26 to celebrate the inaugural Fayette On The Page: One Book, One Community program.

Fayette On The Page is a countywide reading and discussion event that encourages all Fayette County residents to read the same book at the same time, and participate in related activities. This year’s book is “Tuesdays With Morrie,” by Mitch Albom — the true story of a young man receiving timeless life lessons from his dying mentor.

The festivities will commence at 1 p.m. on Saturday on the library lawn, with free hot dogs, hamburgers and watermelon. All refreshments are provided through the support of the Friends of the Fayette County Public Library and food will be cooked on the big grill, compliments of Brent Scarbrough.

At 2 p.m., Patrice Dickey, a life coach and popular motivational speaker, will give a free talk entitled, “How to Get the Life You Love: Patrice Dickey’s Lessons from ‘Tuesdays With Morrie.’” This will be an inspirational feel-good session based on the themes presented in “Tuesdays With Morrie,” reminding us that the physical body is finite but the human spirit is indomitable. Learn how we can cease our painful striving for more and more meaningless “stuff” — and learn to love life, ourselves and each other. An award-winning author, Dickey will have copies of her book, “Back to the Garden: Getting from Shadow to Joy,” available for purchase. A portion of the proceeds of all books sold during the event will go to benefit the Friends of the Fayette County Public Library.

“Our goal for this program was to bring the county together through the experience of reading and talking about a single book, and it has been a great success,” said Chris Snell, director of the Fayette County Public Library. “’Tuesdays With Morrie’ has given everyone a lot to think and talk about. On Saturday, July 26, we welcome all Fayette On The Page participants to the library for an afternoon of fun, food and feeling good about life.”

The Barnes & Noble book store in Fayetteville has partnered with the Fayette County Public Library and the Friends of the Fayette County Public Library for Fayette On The Page, offering a 20 percent discount on copies of “Tuesdays With Morrie” purchased in the Fayetteville store. To receive the discount, customers must simply mention to the cashier that they are participating in Fayette On The Page: One Book, One Community.

Copies of “Tuesdays With Morrie” are also available for checkout to PINES library card holders at the Fayette County Public Library. Any Georgia resident who does not already have a PINES card can receive one on the spot by showing proof of current address and filling out a brief application.

The Fayette County Public Library is located behind the Fayette County administration complex in downtown Fayetteville. For additional information about Fayette On The Page, please contact the library at 770-461-8841 or visit online at www.fayettecountyga.gov/public_library.
