Ron Clayton "Smitty" Smith, 77, died July 10, 2008. He was born Jan. 26, 1931 in Bibb County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tarleton Marvin and Elizabeth Sanders Smith, and a daughter, Patti Smith. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. His professional career was with BellSouth and he was retired as a systems technician. He was a dedicated Member of Westside Baptist Church. Services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Melvin Payne officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Survivors include his wife, Susie Grimes Smith; children, Deborah Smith and Andy Melear, Jonesboro, and Cynthia Smith and Russ Tolle, Jacksonville; a sibling, Robert Sanders Smith, Diamond Head, Miss; grandchildren, Drew and Connie Melear, Jeff and Jennifer Melear, Jennifer and Jason Wright, Brittany Jones, Brian Jones, and Kyle York; great-grandchildren, Bryce Melear, Brynlee Melear, Alexa Keffer, Carleigh Wright, and Briley Peterson.

McKoon Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge.
