Coweta County commission is scheduled to set the 2008 millage rate Friday at 1:30 p.m. following a public hearing on the matter. The proposed millage rates for incorporated and unincorporated areas are going down and would include no net tax increase.

If commissioners agree to go with their proposal, unincorporated residents will see the Net M&O (Maintenance & Operation) millage rate decrease from 7.76 mills to 7.66 mills, for a net tax levy total of $9,308,013. The figure represents a net increase of $688,691 over 2007. The growth in the digest dollar amount came with the continued growth in the county’s commercial and retail projects.

Incorporated residents for 2008 should see the Net M&O decrease from 7.15 mills to 6.98 mills, for a net tax levy of $19,815,740. This figure represents a net increase of $508,015 over 2007, also due to residential and business expansion in the county.

The total county value in 2008 topped $4 billion for the first time at $4.054 billion, up from $3.811 billion in 2007.

Commissioners in 2007 approved a one mill increase for residents, same as they had done in 2006. The 2007 millage rate for unincorporated residents increased from 6.15 to 7.15 mills while residents of the county’s incorporated areas saw an increase from 6.74 to 7.76 mills.
