Civil Air Patrol Cadet Major Drew Clasen has received an appointment to attend the United States Air Force Academy. Georgia’s senior U.S. Senator, Saxby Chambliss, nominated Clasen for this appointment. Clasen is a 2008 graduate of Starr’s Mill High School and the outgoing cadet commander of the Peachtree City – Falcon Field Composite Squadron. Since 1955, the USAF Academy has provided top-notch education, training and inspired leadership for those wishing to serve our nation as officers in the US Air Force. Academy cadets complete four years of studies leading to a bachelor of science degree. Emphasis is given to academics, military training, athletic conditioning, and spiritual and ethical development. Academy graduates have achieved great success, including 35 Rhodes Scholars and 403 general officers. Admission requires a high level of academic achievement in conjunction with well-rounded personal development and character. Approximately one in ten academy cadets have been members of the Civil Air Patrol cadet program. Clasen is the son of Greg and Kim Clasen of Fayetteville. He will enter the USAF Academy Class of 2012 and plans to become a fighter pilot in the USAF upon graduation from the academy. General information about Civil Air Patrol and its programs, including the cadet program, is available on the web at www.cap.gov.
