Robert C. McCoy

Dr. Robert C. McCoy, 87, Asheville, N. C., died July 14, 2008. He was born in Detroit, Mich., in 1921, the only child of Reed and Blanche McCoy. He was a veteran of World War II at Fort Recife, Brazil and was honorably discharged. He completed his Ph.D. at Wayne State University. His work in employee relations included Wolverine Tube Company, American Motors and private consulting firms. In 1981 he retired as Dean of the College of Business at Eastern Michigan University and he and his wife moved to Brasstown, N.C. His life centered around community involvement and service to others. He was active in business and civic involvement in Detroit, was a board member of the John C. Campbell Folk School and faculty member at Tri County Community College and Mars Hill's Extension program. In Asheville, he was an active member of the Jubilee Community, and Habitat for Humanity, Mann Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, and the local chapter of the Red Cross. Memorial services were at Groce Funeral home, Asheville, N. C. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Jean McCully McCoy, whom he married in 1944; children, Rick and Sue McCoy, Canton, Mich., Marcus and Mari McCoy, Peachtree City, and Sally McCoy, Burnsville, N. C.; and grandchildren, Jared, Meghan, Joseph, and Sasha.
