A Peachtree City man was honored Thursday night for "saving" the July 4 parade after a golf cart carrying the parade judges got a flat tire.

Randy Gaddo, the city's director of leisure services, said he approached Dennis Moore, the first golf cart he saw and told Moore he'd have to "commandeer" the cart.

"I thought he was going to punch me, but he said, 'cool,'" Gaddo said.

Moore drove the judges to the end of the mile and a half long parade lineup, Gaddo said.

The parade winners were also honored at the meeting including:

1st place golf cart division: Citadel Self Storage

2nd place golf cart division: The Starke family

3rd place golf cart division: The Blair family

Most patriotic: Partner's Pizza

Grand marshal trophy: Barry Babb for Sheriff

Most creative: Community Emergency Response Team

Mayor's trophy: Delta Credit Union

City spotlight: Canongate Golf Clubs
