Coweta County approves variancesThu, 07/17/2008 - 4:25pm
By: Ben Nelms
Coweta County commissioners July 15 approved three proposals for variances and conditional use permits that had been heard by the Board of Zoning Appeals. Commissioners also approved an agreement relating to medical care received by inmates at the county prison. Earthscape Designs, Inc. requested a variance at 2280 Ga. Highway 34 East. The request sought a buffer reduction from 50 feet to 20 feet. Planning Director Robert Tolleson said Earthscape made the request because the area is currently unsightly and a relaxation of the buffer would allow Earthscape to create a more appealing landscape area with plantings. Commissioners also gave their approval to a variance request with three conditions for the Walgreen’s property to be built at Thomas Crossroads. Applicant Diamond Holdings. LLC requested a 10-foot variance that brought the 10-foot side setback to 0 feet to accommodate the drive-thru window for the 14,820 square-foot building. The conditions included meeting all applicable building code requirements, providing a recorded easement from the adjoining property and the installation of ground cover reaching a maximum height of one-foot. A third proposal approved by the board dealt with a conditional use permit from Trinity Fellowship Church/Trinity Christian School. Located at 8817 Ga. Highway 54 in Sharpsburg, the applicant proposed to construct a two-story worship center totaling 40,000 square feet, a three-story classroom building totaling 25,200 square feet and to relocate an existing modular trailer to the east side of the property. The request was approved with 18 conditions relating to issues such as parking, stormwater and other ordinances, fire marshal’s requirements, future expansion and buffers. Also at the meeting, commissioners approved a revised agreement with Georgia Dept. of Corrections (DOC) pertaining to inmates housed at the county prison. The agreement states that DOC will be notified when an inmate is being transported for medical care outside the facility if the hospital stay will require an overnight stay or if the medical care is expected to exceed $1,000. The county prison can house up to 210 state inmates. Coweta receives $20 per day for each inmate. login to post comments |
