William Cuthbert McDougal Jr., 89, Stockbridge, formerly of Fayetteville, died July 10, 2008 in Nashville,, Tenn. He was born Dec. 31, 1918 in Carrollton, Miss. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Cuthbert and Isabel Caldwell McDougal, and his wife of 45 years, Marion Majet McDougal. He attended public schools in Greenwood, Miss, and the Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, Ga. Upon completing his education he joined Douglas Aircraft Company in Los Angeles, Calif. At the outbreak of World War II, he joined the United States Army Air Corps, serving his country in New Guinea, the Philippines, and Japan. In 1946 he joined C&S Airlines, working in his home town of Greenwood and later Chicago. He joined Delta Air Lines upon its acquisition of C&S and subsequently moved his family to the Atlanta area, settling in East Point and later in Fayetteville. He remained with Delta for 36 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Delta Pioneers, Clan MacDougall Society, a former Flat Creek Club member, a former Elks Club member, and a former member of the Modernaires. Graveside services were at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Survivors include a son, William Cuthbert McDougal III, East Point; daughters, Lane McDougal, Atlanta, and Marion "Kookie" McDougal and Malcolm H. Liles, Nashville, Tenn.; and four grandsons. Memorial donations may be given to the French Camp Academy, French Camp, Miss. or to Clan MacDougall Society. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge. login to post comments |
