The Dauphin Island Sea Lab offered its week-long summer camp “Gulf Island Journey” from June 15-20 for middle school students across the country to come learn more about the marine environment by exploring life on a barrier island. Local resident Hannah Davison, a student at Our Lady of Victory, attended the camp and came back with new knowledge, skills and friends. Students lived on campus for the week and participated in a plethora of unique activities to encourage interest in science and enhance understanding of the marine environment. While attending the camp, Davison took part in a variety of fun activities from fishing to trawling, trips to the marsh, Estuarium, Fort Gaines, and Sand Island, setting up an aquarium and growing plankton. Now that the week-long camp has ended Davison has returned home, but her experience at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab will be remembered and applied in her future. login to post comments |
