A little rain, even a lot of rain, could not stop the hundreds that poured into Hutcheson Ferry Park in Chattahoochee Hill Country July 5 for the 4th Annual Atlanta Symphony Orchestra concert. A part of the Starbucks Coffee Free Parks Concert Series, the outdoor event was followed by a fireworks display. It has become a custom for crowds attending the summer symphony event in Chatt Hills to arrive with a variety of accommodations. Some families bring blankets to lounge on while enjoying a picnic dinners on blankets while others outfit the area with candle-lit tables. Either way, the ASO event has become a one-of-a-kind draw for many around metro Atlanta. And July 5 was no exception, even though rain clouds intermittently doused the many hundreds that came for the evening’s entertainment. Prior to the concert and interspersed through it and the fireworks show the gray skies overhead dumped much-needed rain onto the 103-acre park and everyone in it. It was not uncommon to view a sea of umbrellas hoisted over heads while the symphony played. And they did play. The concert was conducted by Mei-Ann Chen and featured selections from Aaron Copland, Morton Gould, Antonin Dvorak, John Williams, Richard Rogers and Leonard Bernstein. The July 4 event was presented by Fulton County Arts council, Chattahoochee Hill Country Alliance and Starbucks and was sponsored by Serenbe, Minerva Properties, Beaulieu of America, Greystone Power and Georgia Transmission. Fireworks were provided by the Sutherland law firm in Atlanta. The next concert at Hutcheson Ferry Park will be held Oct. 19 and will feature The Brubeck Brothers Quartet jazz band. Hutcheson Ferry Park is located at 9774 Hutcheson Ferry Road in the city of Chattahoochee Hill Country. login to post comments |
