FVPD officer named Legion state winner

A Fayetteville police officer has been named the Officer of the Year for the entire state by the American Legion veterans association.

Kevin Ingram received the honor Saturday. Previously, he had been honored by Post 105, the local Legion post.

Ingram has previously been lauded for his actions in August 2007 when he was shot at by a Fayetteville man while investigating two pedestrians near Crumpton’s Furniture around 3 a.m. Ingram was grazed by a bullet and the female victim in the incident, who was seriously wounded, recovered from her injuries.

The assailant, Jarrod Michael Gooden of Byington Drive, was sentenced in May to 40 years in prison.

Ingram will now contend for the American Legion’s national award for Officer of the Year. The winner of that competition will be recognized at the American Legion National Convention in August.
