Peachtree City’s 4th of July parade is full. Peachtree City’s Parks and Recreation Department is no longer taking a waiting list as the preferred number of entries has been stretched to capacity.

“We had entries early and often,” remarked Ashley Alonso, parade coordinator. “It seems as if more participants entered large vehicles, floats, trailers and trucks. Although golf carts, which used to dominate the parade, are still a vital part of our parade, it seems entries are getting more extravagant,” said Alonso. “We knew it was going to a popular year when the parade almost filled the first week with only Peachtree City residents and political candidates being enrolled,” Alonso noted.

The numbers assigned to registered participants, along with the rules and suggestions for a successful parade have been sent to the contact person listed on the registration form. Recreation staff will be on hand to assist parade participants on parade day. Sites will be marked along the Parkway, beginning at Village Green just north of the Braelinn Golf course. The parade ends at the McIntosh Trail Complex.

Parade entries can compete for awards if they are in place at the assigned time. Awards presented are the Grand Marshal’s trophy, the Mayor’s trophy, Most Patriotic, Most Creative, 1st , 2nd, or 3rd place Golf Cart and for the first time this year, the City Spotlight Award which is designed to honor any entry that exemplifies community spirit and can be a business or individual entry.

Additional activities will be the Fire Department Expo at Drake Field at 2 p.m., the Cedar Hill concert at City Hall Plaza at 7 p.m., and the fireworks extravaganza fireworks show at dusk. For more information on the fabulous fourth, call 770-631-2542.
