Coweta County commissioners June 17 unanimously approved a conditional use request by Billy and Jacquelyn Ponder for the construction of a 7,000 square-foot, 250-seat church with 113 parking spaces on a 4.219-acre tract located at 417 Chestlehurst Road. Director of Planning Robert Tolleson said the property is approximately one-half mile east of the city of Senoia.

Commissioners unanimously approved with request with 12 conditions. Among those were the dedication of right-of-way for future roadway improvements, that lighting be established that will not adversely affect nearby property or roadways and that future expansion of the main assembly area greater than 25 percent of the proposed floor area will require re-submittal of the conditional use application.

In addition to the church, the conceptual site plan for the property shows a future road off Chestlehurst Road and a proposed one-story Christian retreat facility with 10 bedrooms and totaling 4,900 square feet.

Also at the meeting, commissioners agreed with Coweta County Board of Zoning Appeals over the recommendation of the county planning department by unanimously approving a buffer variance requested by Kudzu Productions located on Chestlehurst Road.
The 8.459-acre site is slated for construction of six buildings, each at 15,000 square feet. The buildings will be used for offices, warehouses and shop or work spaces.
Commissioners approved a variance for a 30-foot planted buffer along the south property line rather than the 100-foot buffer required in the ordinance. The approval came after neighbors present at the meeting said they were in support of the variance.
