DAR awards conservation medal

The Augustin Clayton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Jonesboro awarded the DAR Conservation Medal to Vauna Bellury, a Callaway Gardens volunteer.

This medal is a recognition of Bellury’s commitment toward outstanding volunteer and educational work which included nature center work, teaching, and raising produce for charities. At Callaway, Bellury worked in the Production Greenhouses, the Butterfly Production House, and Mr. Cason’s Vegetable Garden.

In addition, she served as a greeter at the Discovery Center, participated in the Volunteer Plant Fair and Sale, and walked on the March of Dimes Night.

In Fayette County, Bellury coordinated the efforts of the Master Gardeners Plant-a-Row-for-the-Hungry, recruiting row captains, researching charities, and scheduling work hours. This group raised almost 11,000 pounds and distributed it to ten charities.

Her conservation efforts are an exemplary combination of good stewardship of the earth while helping others in both physical and educational ways.
