I was disappointed after reading the informational letter printed in the Citizen about one of the candidates for Fayette County School Board. Voters need to have as much knowledge of those seeking office as possible. Since I know Carol Jensen-Linton personally, I would like to share my insight to the kind of women she is and how hard she works for this community.

Carol is very active in the county, especially in the Peachtree City area. She is involved in several civic organizations, her church, and Starr’s Mill High School.

Yes, even though Carol no longer has a child attending the school, she continues to volunteer her services to help keep quality programs running for the Panther’s student body. She believes in giving children (our future) the best in educational, athletic, and social experiences.

She and her husband, Ron, opened their home to a Norwegian girl last school year so that she could experience life in America. Her stay here enriched not only the girl’s life, but also all those who came to know her.

These are all worthwhile endeavors; however, the one I would like to focus on is Carol’s involvement in New Neighbor’s League Club. This is an organization whose purpose is to locate new people in the area and help them become acquainted not only with their new hometown, but also other new people sharing the same experience. This group has existed in Peachtree City for 20 years and Carol has been at the helm as club director for 12 of those years.

Five years ago this August I was one of those new people in town. One afternoon I was unpacking boxes and my doorbell rang. There was Carol with a friendly smile and an armful of information about the area. Her prior vocation as a social worker comes through as she makes one feel as if you have know her all your life. She invited me to visit the club and consider joining. Her passion for this group was so evident that I wanted to find out more. NNLC became my lifeline and helped to make Peachtree City home to me.

Under Carol’s guidance and tireless work, this club has transformed the lives of so many of the newest citizens in Peachtree City. Most of them involve themselves in civic organizations as well as the local schools, which in turn helps the entire community. She is an asset to all of the Fayette County citizens and I believe she would be an asset on the school board. Please consider voting for a better future for our schools by casting your vote for Carol Jensen-Linton.
