The Fayetteville Police Department is looking for local middle school students to attend its fifth annual Junior Police Academy July 28-31.

During the week “recruits” will experience what it is like to go through the police academy. Although the JPA is not nearly as comprehensive or demanding as the real academy, students will learn many of the same skills a police officer must learn. Classes on traffic enforcement, stopping and approaching vehicles, crime scene processing, physical fitness and police tactics will be taught by local law enforcement officers. Over 15 Department employees will be involved in teaching, observing and leading the students.

The Academy will run Monday-Thursday from a.m. to 4 p.m.. Drinks and snacks will be provided daily and lunch will be provided on Thursday only.

Applications can be picked up at the Fayetteville Police Department located at 760 Jimmie Mayfield Boulevard. Applicants must be entering in the 6th, 7th, or 8th grade and have a “C” average or better in school. Class is limited to 20 students.
