Dozens of fathers were nominated, all amazing, but in the end only three could be named The Citizen “Father of the Year,” and along with our advertising sponsors, we are pleased to announce the winners of this “first-in-many-years” contest.

Jim Kulaga, 62, of Peachtree City, has been named the best dad among nominees over the age of 60. In recommending her dad for this honor, daughter Amanda said: “He taught me that not everything is possible, but everything is impossible if you don’t try.”

Tony Evans, of Fayetteville, has been named best dad among nominees ages 40-60.His son, Daniel, presented a well-written and excellent case on behalf of his father, explaining that the best thing about his dad is how helpful he is to others.

“He wants to teach me how important it is to help others and be respectful of them,” Daniel wrote.

Thomas and Jonathan Waldman-Jones shared a heartwarming story about the sacrifices their stepfather makes on their behalf.

“When he married our mom we were little and had some problems, but he didn’t turn and run away,” they said.

As a result, Todd Jones, 29, has been selected as Father of the Year among those nominees under the age of 40.

“The judges for this contest read about some really incredible guys,” Michael Boylan, sports editor for The Citizen, said Tuesday. “They were all winners. Congratulations to all who participated for taking the time to express thanks for having great fathers.”

Each of the winners will be receiving prizes and gift certificates this week from co-sponsors of this event, which are:

Premiere: Nature’s Landscape Services, Inc., World Gym Fitness Centers;

Silver: The Dinner A’Fare, Wydnham Peachtree Conference Center, Velocity Sports Performance, A Better Heating & Air Conditioning;

Bronze: Fayetteville Fun Bowl, Ace Hardware, Barnes & Noble, Rosa’s Home Cooking, Nalley Honda, Rita’s Ice, and Nikko Japanese Steakhouse.

“We appreciate the support of our advertisers in making this event possible,” Boylan said. “Their generous support provided approximately $2,000 worth of prizes to each dad.”
