Locals among Sand Arts Festival winners

The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) held its annual Sand Arts Festival last month at Tybee Island. Thousands of visitors viewed temporary sand art masterpieces created on the island’s north beach. More than 300 SCAD students competed for cash prizes and several local residents were among the winners.

In the Sand Castle division, first place was awarded to “Castle Ruin,” by Robert Fleming, an industrial design major from Fayetteville, Ga., Thomas Michael Battjes of Fennville, Mich. and Yanni Davros of Shaker Heights, Ohio.

Third place was awarded to “Tall Castle,” by Jon Cooper of Tyrone, Ga., Jake Shealy, a film and television major from Fayetteville, Ga., Brian Bremges of Scitate, R.I. and Corey Koberna of Chagrin Falls, Ohio.
