Joel Howard Whitten, 63, Fayetteville, died May 30, 2008. He was born Oct. 10. 1944 in Loudon County, Tenn., son of the late Thomas and Nell C. Whitten. He was a lifelong resident of Georgia. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during Vietnam. He was retired from BellSouth, was a former deputy with the Fayette County Sheriff's Department, and a former member of the Brooks Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Masons. Memorial services were at the Conner-Westbury Funeral Home chapel, Griffin. Survivors include his wife, Anne Marie Whitten; daughters, Judith Whitten, Yatesville, and Jennifer and Billy Lee, Yatesville; step-children, James Nashwinter, New York, John Nashwinter, Minnesota, and Michelle Cardis, Minnesota; grandchildren, Charles Pence, Joseph Pence, and Katie Lee; and eight step-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 409410, Atlanta, GA 30384-9410. Connor-Westbury Funeral Home, Griffin, was in charge.
