In spite of the poppies

Saw today where we will give Afghanistan
Many billions next year for the hungry
And we hoped it to be a flash in the pan
Not to grow food but poppies, I am angry

Does that make seven years of food aid
To people giving poppy money to Taliban
I suppose we get paid by the poppy trade
When it ends up here by border caravan.

Yet the Brits went home and said
We have better things to do elsewhere
At lest until we are better paid
Looking for Bin Laden in his lair.

Today we bombed in Pakistan
In hot pursuit of the Taliban!
