As a candidate for Fayette County Commissioner Post 2, I want to serve our government so as to involve each citizen in the exciting process of elective representation. Our county government is best served when we are all involved. We live in a great county because of our personal involvement and concern for each other. Over the past 20 years I have had the opportunity to raise my family in the Fayette County School System and in the various institutions of this county, i.e., church, Cub Scouts, baseball programs, soccer programs, and with the Starr’s Mill High School athletic and civic programs. As a Fayette County commissioner I will serve to maintain this excellent environment by serving the people with an open and fair approach to everyone’s voice. I will listen to your concerns and then vote on the commission with the best interests of our county as my motivation. Also, I will want your input as to how to make our county better so we will maximize the dollar value and productivity from our taxes. As an example, last week I met and had the opportunity to listen to Fayette County resident Dr. Gerald F. Arkin, assistant provost of the University of Georgia’s Griffin Campus. On Friday, May 9, I spent an informative session with Dr. Arkin at the UGA Griffin Campus. Listening to Dr. Arkin, I learned that this UGA campus offers various fields of study for undergraduate and graduate degrees (www.uga.edu/griffin). One field that I was excited to learn about was that this first class educational facility operates to protect and improve our nation’s food supply. Food safety scientific studies are researched at this educational institution. Dr. Arkin noted in our discussion that UGA and Georgia Tech scientists work together on research projects for protecting our nation’s security improving and protecting our food supply. Fayette County high school students can apply to participate in educational programs at the University of Georgia Griffin Campus. High school students interested in science and other academic fields of study have the opportunity to learn with professors and college students at the college level while still enrolled in our Fayette County high schools. It is important that we as citizens are aware of and utilize our available resources in our county and in our surrounding area. We as parents have this opportunity to promote and excite our young sons and daughters to dream and reach to the stars for their future. Here is one example for this to be accomplished.
