The Dixie Wing Commemorative Air Force hangar in Peachtree City was transformed into an unofficial jail Wednesday morning as local community leaders helped raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Participants raised their “bail” to get out, using their rolodexes and contact lists to raise money that will be used to, among other things, send children with MDA and other related issues to a summer camp designed to accommodate their needs.

All told the event raised $24,814 for MDA. In addition to the camp, funds will help bankroll a clinic at Emory University Hospital and also local support groups.

The camp, which provides about one counselor for each participant, is planned to be just like any other summer camp, with swimming, boating, horseback riding, fishing, a zip line and two dances for the children to enjoy.

The camp, located in north Georgia, will serve about 140 children this summer, and it’s the most-used camp in the country.
