James Gordon Johnson

James Gordon Johnston, 81, Hoover, Ala., formerly of Peachtree City, died May 23, 2008. He was born April 8, 1928. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Jesse Johnston. He was graduated from Boy's High School and Georgia Tech. He served in the United States Merchant Marines in the Korean War. He spent his career employed by AT&T Corporation, living in Atlanta, Birmingham, Owensboro and Louisville, Ky. After retirement he moved to Peachtree City where he was active in the Carriage Lane Presbyterian Church. In 2002 he and his wife returned to Birmingham and lived at Galleria Woods Retirement Center. Graveside services for the immediate family will be held at a later date. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Martha Jo Boozer Johnston, Hoover, Ala.; a son, James "Jim" and Dot Johnston Jr.; grandchildren, Katherine Elizabeth Johnston, and James Edwin Johnston; a sister, Josephine Price; a brother-in-law, Virgil and Vernelle Boozer; and a sister-in-law, Gloria Johnston. Memorial donations may be made to Carriage Lane Presbyterian Church, 101 Carriage Lane, Peachtree City, GA 30269. Currie-Jefferson Funeral home, Hoover, Ala. was in charge.
