Eight members of the Fayette-Starr's Mill Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, attended the Georgia Society State Conference in Athens and had a banner year for awards.

Despite the fact that the chapter is only 4 years old, Fayette-Starr's Mill, scored higher than 111 other chapters in the state for the Chapter Achievement Award. In American Heritage entries, Elsie Wendland won first place in the state for the category of Crafts with a colonial shadowbox fashioned after her New England ancestor's kitchen. She also won first place in the category of Crochet with a bedspread. A few of the chapter's many state awards were: State Honor Roll; Overall Most New Members by Application with the award of a traveling silver bowl (tied); Most Outstanding Contribution Percentage to Tamassee DAR School; Outstanding Constitution Week Activities Report; second place for Greatest Percentage Increase in Member Attendance at meetings; and honorable mention for Commemorative Events Report.

Volunteer Genealogist of the Year 2007-2008 went to Judy Hughes, and Wendy Fox was recognized for submitting a quilt square for the State Regent's farewell quilt.

The chapter meets the second Monday of every month at 7 p.m. in members' homes. It is a 118 year old hereditary society that focuses on historical, educational and patriotic endeavors. Genealogical assistance is provided. For membership information call the registrar at 678-364-1388.
