The popular People’s Law School is coming to Fayette County this February, bringing new opportunities for citizens to learn more about the legal system. The course will be taught by local attorneys and judges who will cover a broad range of legal issues.

The one-hour classes begin Feb. 1 and continue each Wednesday evening for eight weeks. The course is designed to help citizens better understand how the legal system protects and preserves justice and fairness. To register, call the Fayette County Board of Education Community School at 770-460-3990 x470 or register via e-mail to comsch@fcboe.org. The charge for the sessions and the handout materials is $20.

More than 4,500 Georgians have graduated from the People’s Law Schools statewide. The courses are open to anyone who desires to learn more about the legal system – in layperson’s terms. Graduates of the schools have commented that as a result of attending the courses, they "now know more about how to make the law work for them."

Participants may attend as many of the classes as desired. Every student receives handout materials for each of the sessions and a certificate if he or she completes 7 of the 8 sessions.

The school is sponsored by Webb, Lindsey, & Wade, LLC and the Georgia Civil Justic Foundation. James H. Webb, Jr. Will chair the school.

Topics to be covered include How The Courts Work; Family and Domestic Relations Law; Torts; Wills, Estates, and Trusts; Criminal Law; Business Law; Medical Malpractice; and Alternative Dispute Resolution/Mediation.
