John and Donna Kimmons of Fayetteville and Tom and Denise Gordy of Newnan announce the engagement of their daughter, Allison Michelle Gordy, to Bennett Emerson McCumber, son of Jerry and Cathy McCumber of Avondale Estates.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Jack and Marilynn Coats of Douglasville and the late Herbert and Margie Gordy of Newnan. She is a 1999 graduate of Fayette County High School and a 2006 graduate of Mercer University with a bachelor of arts degree in literature. She is employed by the Coweta County Board of Education.

The future groom is the grandson of Lucile McCumber and the late Ralph R. McCumber of Decatur and Betty and Harlan D. Whitehead of Tennessee. He is a 1999 graduate of Woodward Academy and a graduate of Georgia State University with a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice. He is a 2008 graduate of Mercer University with a master’s degree in public safety leadership. He is employed by the Rockdale County Board of Education.

The wedding will be July 19, 2008, at Avondale Estates First Baptist Church with a reception following at the old DeKalb County Courthouse. After their honeymoon, the couple will reside in the Atlanta area.
