The Landmark Christian War Eagles are now only two victories away from winning the Class A state championship after sweeping Brookstone 5-2 and 15-4 in a doubleheader Monday.

The first game was a pitchers duel all the way to the seventh inning. Senior Michael Leonard started on the hill and held Brookstone to two runs and four hits through four and 2/3 innings. He was relieved by sophomore Blake Austin who held the Brookstone hitters scoreless into the seventh inning. In the bottom of the seventh with the score tied 2-2, senior Luke Griffith led off with a double, followed by sophomore Colby Wren who got to first on an error. Junior Tanner Bryant came to the plate and hit a walk-off three run home run for the victory.

The second game was all Landmark Christian. The War Eagles combined for 17 hits and 15 runs. Every position in the line-up had at least one hit, and the team batted around in two separate innings. Colby Wren and Tanner Bryant each contributed home runs to the winning effort. Additionally, Colby Wren went 4 for 5, Tanner Bryant went 3 for 4, Eric Burdette and Michael Leonard each went 2 for 4 and Kyle Wren went 2 for 5.

Landmark (26-6) will host the Pacelli Vikings (27-3) in the state title game on Friday. The War Eagles lost to Pacelli 8-6 earlier this season. Pacelli has scored 315 runs this season and allowed 89 and Landmark has scored 314 runs this season and allowed 102.

Game times for Friday have yet to be established.
