The tens of thousands who have died fighting to protect America's freedom were honored today in separate services at the veteran's memorial in Peachtree City and at the city cemetery in Fayetteville.

In Peachtree City, retired Marine Corps Chief Warrant Officer Randy Gaddo spoke about the 1983 terrorist bombing in Beirut, Lebanon that killed 241 servicemen on a peacekeeping mission. Gaddo said the U.S. pulled out of the area in response, which he saw as a critical mistake that helped terrorist groups thrive.

Gaddo said he hoped the mistake would not be repeated with a pullout of U.S. troops fighting the war on terror in Iraq and Afghanistan.
