Whitewater was looking to fill its vacant baseball coach position.

It decided to stay in-house, hiring Bobby Gatlin, an assistant football coach at Whitewater since its inception five years ago, to take over for Frank Dixon, who recently resigned.

Gatlin has been a head baseball coach at Palmetto, Russell and Headland and a head football coach at Headland and Woodland.

Whitewater missed the playoffs this past season. It finished with an overall record of 19-7 and a Region 2-AAAA record of 10-6, good for fifth in the region.

The Wildcats last reached the state playoffs two years ago, losing to eventual state champion Greenbrier 5-1 and 11-0 in the first round.
