Young Chefs Academy in Peachtree City has announced their Camp Can-I-Cook "Cook for the Gold" summer camp series. As the world’s greatest athletes assemble this summer in Beijing, China for the Olympics, area kids will gather in the kitchens at Young Chefs Academy to cook-up some Olympic-sized fun. The culinary adventures of Camp Can-I-Cook will explore some of the healthiest, tastiest recipes from around the world. Weekly themes include The Champions Table, Athletes in Training, A Day in Beijing, Italian Team Winners and more. During each four day camp session, children will prepare more than 15 different recipes allowing them to experience a variety of new tastes from Greece and Italy to France and Russia. In addition, each camp session includes theme-related art projects, learning interesting, fun facts about featured countries and cuisines as well as tasty samplings of all the recipes prepared. Every camp concludes with Recipe Trials where the young chefs will develop their own recipes based on what they have learned that week. "Through Young Chefs Academy's entertaining curriculum children learn the fundamentals of cooking in a fun, hands-on environment," said Angela Miles, owner of Young Chefs Academy in Peachtree City. Miles adds, "Kids also learn kitchen safety, etiquette, menu planning and table setting all while actually making and tasting real recipes." Young Chefs Academy Camp Can-I-Cook "Cook for the Gold" begins Monday, June 2 and runs through August, 7. Sessions run Monday through Thursday in the morning from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or in the afternoon from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Each weekly session costs $189 per child with a sibling rate of $159. Camps are open to kids ages 5 to 16 and will be divided up by age (based on registration) into our two kid-friendly kitchens. Other summer classes include a weekly KinderCooks class for kids ages three to five. During these 1.5 hour classes, the littlest of chefs will have a blast preparing two recipes, playing a theme-related activity and reading classic children's books. On Saturdays, parents and kids can cook together during Big Chef/Lil’ Chef workshops which are held from 12 to 2 p.m. Themes include Father’s Day Fun, Stars & Stripes, and Summer Grillin’. Young Chefs Academy also offers a weekly Senior Chef class for teens on Thursdays from 5-6:30 p.m. and even adults can learn cooking basics in the Young at Heart classes held twice a month. Young Chefs Academy’s mission is to teach children the importance and value of cooking in a safe setting that encourages discovery and creativity. More than simple lessons on how to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, children learn lifelong skills and the joy of cooking in an educational and safe environment all while having fun. The kid-friendly kitchen classrooms also provide a "real" setting so that the students can use what they learn in their own homes.
