A New York State of Mind

The Southern Crescent Chorale will conclude their 2007-2008 concert season with the excitement of the Big Apple at their Villages Amphitheater concert entitled “A New York State of Mind.”

This concert, planned for Saturday, May 17, will be conducted by Janice Folsom and will include musical selections that depict life in the bustling city. Jazz, pop, and show tunes will all be included for this entertaining evening under the stars. Soloists Stephen Rotz, tenor, and Amber Harris, soprano, will bring their talents and personalities to add variety to the evening.

The Don McSwain Jazz Band will be returning to accompany the chorale along with pianist, Dr. Amy Foster. Audience members can also enjoy the dance floor during the concert.

Some of the songs you’ll hear are “The Boy from New York City,” “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” “Take the A Train,” “Peter Gunn Theme,” “It Don’t Mean a Thing If It Ain’t Got that Swing,” “Stardust,” Billy Joel’s “A New York State of Mind” and many more.

The concert will also feature a tribute to Broadway including many favorites from Andrew Lloyd Webber, Rodgers and Hammerstein and other Broadway composers. Music from recent Broadway hits will also be performed including songs from "Hairspray" and "Wicked."

A highlight of the evening will be a medley from the smash Broadway hit “Jersey Boys,” which features the music of the Four Seasons.
