• Jackson named to dean's list
Jenna L. Jackson, of Fayetteville, Ga., has been named to the dean's list at Mercer University in Macon for the 2007 fall semester. She was invited to join Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society which is the oldest and largest honor society for first-year college students. Students must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale during their first year. Members are also eligible for scholarships and awards awarded through the national scholarship committee. Jackson is a 2007 graduate of Sandy Creek High School.

• Larson awarded scholarship
Sarah Larson, of Peachtree City, Ga., has been accepted into Wingate University for the fall 2008 semester. A student at Starr’s Mill High School, she has earned Wingate’s Trustee Scholarship. The scholarship has a four-year value of $38,000. The scholarship is awarded to students who reflect Wingate University’s academic and community values. Recipients are expected to continue their academic success and extracurricular involvement at Wingate. Larson is the daughter of Scott and Joyce Larson.

• Local student awarded Hendrix scholarship
Laura Aday of Fayetteville, a senior at Whitewater High School, has received both an academic scholarship and professional leadership and development scholarship to attend Hendrix College beginning in the fall of 2008. Aday is the daughter of Bill and Lisa Howe. Hendrix College, founded in 1876, is an undergraduate liberal arts college emphasizing experiential learning in a demanding yet supportive environment. The college is among 165 colleges featured in the 2008 edition of the Princeton Review America’s Best Value Colleges. Hendrix has been affiliated with the United Methodist Church since 1884. • Rhodes recognized at Honors Day
Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland, Ga. has announced that Rebekah Denise Rhodes, of Fayetteville, was recognized at the college’s annual Honors Day on May 1. Rhodes received the 2008 award for Outstanding Achievement in Education. She was recognized for having achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or during each of the last three consecutive semesters. Rhodes was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. She was recognized in the national academic honor society Phi Theta Kappa.
