Mezzo-soprano Cecelia Stearman will provide music during the 8:30 a.m. service at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church May 18. A concert and opera artist, Stearman also teaches at Missouri Baptist University. Last summer she founded the Community Gospel Choir in Kirkwood, Mo., where she lives. Stearman is in town for the baptism of her nephew.

At the 11 a.m. sanctuary service the church will honor its 35 high school seniors, including McIntosh High School valedictorian Courtney Simmonds and salutatorian Craig Handy. The Christ Our Shepherd Brass and Flute Choir will play, and senior Cherise Quamme will ring a handbell solo.

The annual Scholarship Concert takes place Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. The church’s Jazz Band, Clarinet Choir, and the Christ Our Shepherd Brass will perform, as well as the three young musicians who will attend Lutheran Summer Music this year: Amy Bonecutter, Karla Dietmeyer and Brandon Rothfusz.

The concert will help fund scholarships for the month-long LSM event, which takes place at Gustavus Adolphus College in June and July. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will provide matching funds.

After the concert the congregation is invited to a dessert social in Fellowship Hall, at which “Building the Body” will be presented. This emphasis encourages every COS disciple to make a commitment to the ministry of the church.
